I cannot possibly express how much it means to me and how thankful that I am to be asked to participate in Trans Day of Remembrance hosted by Trans Joy Akron and the City of Akron.
The event will be held on Sunday, November 19th at Lock 4, 200 South Main Street in downtown Akron beginning at 6:00 PM. I will be reading my poems “Persons Unknown” and “The Funky Skunk.”
Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance that honors trans lives lost to violence and discrimination. With the growing number of anti-trans acts, it is critical to hold space for memory and reflection, as well as bringing awareness.
The event will inlcude:
Outdoor & indoor space
Accessible parking
Security
Speakers/poetry/song
Respectful fire ceremony
Time for reflection
Voter registration
HIV prevention & PrEP information
Community resources
In addition to honoring the lives lost to anti-trans violence, TDOR will also highlight trans individuals who are making strides in their own communities.
You are cordially invited to attend this very important commemoration.
