TRANSGENDER POET, BARBARA MARIE MINNEY, AGAIN A PART OF THE WOMEN OF APPALACHIA PROJECT!

Updated: Dec 31, 2022

I am extremely proud to once again be one of the fabulous women who are a part of the Women of Appalachia Project. This will be my fourth year. My poem “Roadblocks” is included in “WOMEN SPEAK: VOLUME EIGHT.” This wonderful anthology is edited by Kari Gunter-Seymour, the Poet Laureate of Ohio, and published by Hayley Mitchell Haugen and Sheila-Na-Gig Editions. The Anthology contains poetry, fiction, essays, songs, and fine art by a variety of amazing women. Copies of this anthology may be ordered through Sheila-Na-Gig Online:

My involvement with the Women of Appalachia Project is particularly important to me. For all practical purposes and in many ways, being involved in this Project was the start of my poetry journey. My second published poem was in “WOMEN SPEAK: VOLUME FIVE.” More importantly, it brought me in contact with Kari Gunter-Seymour, who has been a kind of long-distance mentor, and I am extremely grateful for her support and encouragement.

Kari is the Executive Director and Founder of the Women of Appalachia Project. “The Women of Appalachia Project™ was created to address discrimination directed at women from the Appalachian region by encouraging participation from women artists of diverse backgrounds, ages and experiences to come together, to embrace the stereotype, to show the whole woman; beyond the superficial factors that people use to judge her.”
